All You Needed to Know about Asthma Inhaler Side Effects

The most commonly way to lead a normal life when you have asthma is to invest in an asthma inhaler device. However, just like any type of medicine, there are positives and negatives to using this device. If you know the asthma inhaler side effects to look for, then you can be prepared for what’s to come. Part of any medical condition is having as much information about it as possible. If you know what could happen when you use your inhaler, you will not be surprised if some of the following asthma inhaler side effects pop up.

Increased Heart Rate Is Topmost Among Asthma Inhaler Side Effects

Asthma medicine is something that is meant to make breathing much easier. Thus, it is meant for a person’s lungs. When these drugs are absorbed by other pieces of the body, then you may experience asthma inhaler side effects. One such effect is an increased heart rate. Additionally, because of the increase in one’s heart rate, one may also end up feeling a bit manic or hyper.

The increase in heart rate is a common side effect of asthma inhalers because when consumes the medication through their mouth, some of it may hit the walls of the mouth and be swallowed instead of absorbed into the lungs. This is how medicine hits other areas of the body instead of affecting only one’s lungs and breathing. This becomes less common the more a person uses their inhaler.

Upset Stomach

If the medicine is accidentally swallowed, a common asthma inhaler side effect is an upset stomach. This won’t be painful, but digesting food will be uncomfortable. Additionally, one may lose their appetite all together. This is why it is so important to breathe in when consuming the asthma medication. If one forgets to breathe in, the medication is not sucked into the lungs. Instead, it can cake the walls of the mouth, be absorbed into the mucous membrane, and be passed to other areas of the body.

The best way to avoid an upset stomach is to limit the amount of medicine that is consumed. Using things like a metered dose inhaler or a spacer can help the user focus the medicine so that it affects only the lungs and not other areas of the body.

It’s Not a Cure

And of course, one of the biggest or most common asthma inhaler side effects is that it just may not work. There are times where no matter what a person does, an attack will come on and will need to be treated in other ways or run its course. Thus, the inhaler does not always work.
